Industrial Machinery, Steel & Metal Products
Asian Inspection has performed inspection of steel and metal products including steel pipes, industrial machinery, bicycles, motorbikes, etc.
Pipe Inspection
Pre-Shipment Inspection of pipe and related steel products helps in ensuring that all pipes produced meet client requirements and conforms to accepted standards. Asian Inspection has experience with all types of pipe, tubing, casing, line pipe, seamless or welded, which are checked against API, DIN, BS, ASTM specification and other regional equivalents including Coating specifications.
We have a team of experienced inspectors, ready to carry out independent assessments of pipe, including assessment of the quality of material used in the manufacture of pipe under inspection. Samples are taken from steel rolls and sent to an independent laboratory for;
- Composition analysis
- Tensile strength
- Elongation test
- Any other test required by client
The above laboratory tests are repeated again during inspection of finished pipe and include additional laboratory tests which may include
- Flattening Test
- Bend Test
- Fracture toughness/Impact Test
All these tests are conducted in accordance with various internationally accepted standards and client special instructions if any. Physical/visual checks of finished pipe include
- Welding checks
- Dimensions and surface appearance
- Weight
- Thread check
- Inspection of coating
- Quantity
- Supervision of Non-destructive testing
- Packing and Markings inspection
- Loading supervision
The following are the basic minimum field checkpoints in pipe inspections
- Quantity
- Packing
- Workmanship
- Marking & Labeling
- Field checks
- Client Special Requirement
Product Specification analysis to check for chemical and mechanical conformity with requisite specification. These tests may include destructive testing where samples are taken for offsite laboratory testing.
Weld checks are also done to confirm the proper fusion of weld material with pipe material. Our detailed inspection reports with high resolution digital photographic evidence confirm each aspect of the inspection and provide all the information that is needed to make a final shipping decision.
Pipe-destructive-testing
Pipe Inspection – Hydro Test, NDT, Visual and Dimension
To ensure product quality, certain inspection and non-destructive tests are performed on the body & weld of the pipe. These checks are to ensure that there are no physical defects in the pipe/weld, which may affect its performance during service. These tests include Flux leakage examination or Magnetic flaw detection Eddy current
Ultrasonic – can be done on full body or only for weld seam
Hydrotest of Pipe
Hydrostatic Test of pipe is carried out on specialized equipment to ensure that pipe will withstand requisite pressure without leaking.
According to our procedure, a comprehensive sequence of a) During Production and/or b) Final Pre-Shipment Inspection would be as follows;
During Production (DUPRO)
Raw Material Testing
- Take raw material analysis report from supplier.
- Collect the sample of material and after proper sealing and identification marking send the collected sample to independent laboratory for chemical and physical test analysis.
- On Receipt of report from laboratory the lab results are compared with standard criteria specified in Purchase Contract and passed onto client and supplier for information and required adjustments if any.
Spiral Machine Operation
- At spiral machine following operations are performed
- Spiral Making
- Welding
- Fluoroscopy
- Cutting
- Inspector normally conducts visual inspection of the above mentioned operation.
Initial Checking
After cutting pipes are transferred in the Initial checking sectionDuring initial checking Inspector checks the following;
- Length
- Bead height
- Outside diameter
- Wall thickness
- Straightness
- Roundness
- Finishing of pipe etc
Radio Graphic Test and Repair
Visually check the pipe and note the pipe ID number.
- Supervise the Radiographic Test of pipes identify and separate defective product if any, note nature of defect, send pipe for repair if considered possible.
- After repair, the pipe is checked again and after satisfactory results, included in the Finishing Operation.
Finishing Operation
The following operation are performed for finishing of pipes
- Beveling
- Root facing
- Squareness
- Hydrostatic test
- End X-Rays of pipe
At End X-Ray machine the test results for each pipe are checked for conformity.
At hydrostatic machine, Inspectorchecks the hydrostatic test settings and maintains supervision of the process.
Final Inspection
During Final Inspection Inspector checks the following parameters;
Coated Pipe Inspection
Corrosion prevention requires great attention to detail during preparation of surface and application of protective coatings. Extreme vigilance is maintained during the entire procedure for inspection, which is usually as follows;
- Inspect the bare pipe for damages.
- Monitor the blasting cleaning or pickling.
- Monitor pre-heat of pipes (for powder epoxy coating).
- Check anti-corrosion coating application.
- Check film thickness of coating.
- In case of coating defect/damage, separate for rework and check the pipe after rework.
Loading Supervision
- Ensure that foam is available between winch and pipe.
- Check outer packaging to ensure it is sound and as per specification
- All shipping marks should be fresh and clearly visible.
- Handling beam should be used.
- Stacking should be done in pyramid formation.

Industrial Products
Among the numerous Industrial Products we have inspected over the years, the most unusual product maybe FRP based sliding Window Assemblies for Railway passenger carriages door and side windows.
Detailed engineering drawings related to dimensions with very limited tolerances are referred to verify the product size.
Random samples are drawn from offered consignment, on percentage basis as specified by client. All main parts of window assembly dimensions are checked in comparison with the measurements according to specifications, which include;
- Main Frame
- Window Glass Shutter
- Window Louver Shutter
- FRP forming, edges and bevel smoothness
Physical onsite tests also include checking of FRP/glass thickness, glass fitting and lining, window open/shut, louver open/shut ease of operation and effort, lock mechanism etc. Color and quality of specified paint finish should be free of any surface defects. Separate components of the assembly are weighed and also the assembled product is weighed for verification against specifications.
Samples are sent to laboratory for testing in accordance with client requirements which normally includes;
- Composition: Resin/Fiber content
- Bend Test
- Hardness Test
- Water Absorption
- Tensile Strength
Inner and outer packaging is checked for damage prevention, rigidity and ease of handling, stacking and shipment. Shipping marks are checked to ensure accuracy and clarity.
