Tarpaulin / Tents Inspection

Tarpaulin and Tents Inspection

Tarpaulins can be classified according to a diversity of factors, such as material type polyethylene, canvas, vinyl, etc., and generalized into categories such as regular duty, heavy duty, super heavy duty.

For quality verification inspection of tarpaulin and tents, we follow the specifications prescribed in the purchase contract and the procedures laid down by Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA). Inspection is normally conducted on random sampling basis. Apart from visual, dimensional and textile characteristics inspection, we arrange laboratory testing of representative sample drawn from consignment of canvas / tarpaulin to check and verify the specifications.

The samples for laboratory testing are drawn at random in pre-determined ratio and cut according to minimum required size. A lot/consignment is passed for shipment, when it is found conforming to visual, dimensional, textile, physical and chemical characteristics specified in Purchase Contract.

Tents are classified as temporary housing or shelter, for any reason. High volume tent inspections are for basic canvas tents made for heavy duty use in remote locations for  persons displaced by natural disasters or displacement due to man made reasons. Sizes vary from small single fly tents to large field hospital tents with multiple entry points, single/double fly, and partitioning within the tent structure. Accordingly, the specifications of the canvas, stitching, seams etc. also varies to a great extent in keeping with the size and end utilization of the tent.

A typical inspection of tarpaulins and/or tents will in any case include the following;

  • Suitability of materials and components
  • Waterproof  testing
  • Details of hem & joints
  • Stitching
  • Eyelets/Grommets, Triangles etc.
  • Flame retardant/ fire resistance testing
  • Weight and Volume when packed.
  • Visual Inspection and quantity verification of finished material
  • Packing and Marking checks

Lab tests usually include requirements of specifications such as;

  • Weight per sq meter ( GSM)
  • Count of yarn
  • Construction
  • Tensile strength
  • Water Proofing
  • Rot Proofing
  • Color Fastness
