Social Compliance Verification & Audit
Asian Inspection has experience in social compliance verification audit of factories, especially textile mills and apparel / garment factories. Guidelines and checklist provided by the internationally accepted SA8000 Standard form the basis for such audits.
While the client/importer decides about which social audit framework to apply to their supplier depending on their own needs and priorities, many auditing companies recommend an audit based on the SA8000 standard for its comprehensive coverage, relative simplicity and clearly outlined requirements.
SA8000 is a voluntary standard for social compliance based on the UN Declaration of Human Rights, national labor laws and international human rights norms.
By understanding the requirements of a SA8000 social compliance audit checklist, the client/importer is able to accurately interpret the results of an audit.
SA8000 social compliance audit checklist includes the nine requirements below. A third-party audit should demonstrate the supplier’s compliance according to these minimum requirements.
- Child labor
- Forced labor
- Wages & benefits, including medical facilities, retirement benefits etc.
- Health and safety, including security arrangement, firefighting arrangement and recreational facilities.
- Freedom of association and collective bargaining
- Discrimination
- Disciplinary practices
- Working hours
- Management system
While the foregoing is not necessarily conclusive, most major importers/retailers accept international third-party audit frameworks like SA8000, rather than requiring suppliers to apply their own customized framework.
An Evaluation questionnaire is sent to the management of factory to be audited. The factory management is required to complete and return the questionnaire and confirm date of actual audit. Our audit team will check compliance with the information provided in the completed questionnaire, and any non-conformities or discrepancies are noted in the Report, to be addressed and removed by specified date.
